My name is Georgina...

Well, Georgina when I answer the phone and when I’m in trouble.

Once we get to know each other, I'm definitely Georgie.

I’m an old-school romantic, pure and simple. But that doesn't mean I'm stuffy and boring. Don't let the platinum blonde, George Clooney hair stripe fool you. 😂

I'm also a mum to four amazing boys, so I'm a sports-watching, car-loving, thongs-and-shorts-wearing North Queensland chick.

Ask my husband and he'll tell you I cry at the drop of a hat — movies, TV shows, even bloody ads.

I'm a big emotional ball of fluff.

And honestly? I reckon that's a pretty good quality to have when you're a celebrant.

Because when I marry you, I don't just turn up, say the legal words and head home.

I get invested.

Every couple becomes a little bit like family to me.

Yes, I will stalk you on socials after the ceremony. You can't get rid of me that easily. 😂

I never considered being a celebrant until my husband suggested it.

But I don't want to give him too much credit. 😂

We were having one of those conversations about what we wanted to be when we grew up — mind you, we were already in our 40s. #cough

I was thinking about changing careers and perhaps starting my own business.

We threw around all sorts of ideas.

Bookkeeper.

Real estate agent.

Something to do with adult education — I do have a Post Grad Degree in that, so I should probably use it somehow.

But nothing quite felt right.

I've always had something on the go. Sitting still is not really in my nature.   #cantwatchtvwithoutscrollingonmyphoneatthesametime

Then Hubby threw out:

“What about a celebrant?”

Completely random.

But then I started thinking about it.

As my extended family's designated public speaker, and someone who can regularly be found watching sappy movies and wedding dress reality shows on TV... #sayyestothedress

...it actually started to make a weird amount of sense.

So I pondered.

And researched.

And pondered and researched some more.

And then the decision was made.

Yep. This is for me.

After 12 months of study (yes, it really does take that long), I became an Authorised Marriage Celebrant.

In 2020.

Just as COVID hit.

Excellent timing, Georgie. 😂

It was, to put it mildly, a challenge.

But weirdly, it also cemented something for me.

I bloody love this job.

It's not just a job to me.

Every couple is a chance to meet new people, hear a new story, learn something about two people I've never met before and become a tiny part of their story.

Yep. It's a bit mushy.

But it's the truth.

I'm organised. Very organised.

I like things done properly, details checked and plans in place.

Because while I want your ceremony to feel relaxed, I don't want the planning of it to feel chaotic.

I'm relaxed, friendly and I'll probably drop a swear every now and then.

But don't worry — I know my audience.

I can be cheeky and casual, or I can pull it back and deliver something more formal and traditional.

Your ceremony should sound like you.

When I take on your wedding, I'm invested.

I'll do everything I can to make sure your ceremony runs according to plan, and if I have to play defence between you and your Aunties, Uncles or even your new in-laws...

I'm on it. 😂

Because after all these years, I still bloody love watching two people get married.

So that's me.

A North Queensland chick who accidentally became a celebrant in her 40s, discovered she absolutely bloody loves it, and now gets to stand beside people while they promise to spend the rest of their lives together.

Pretty lucky, really.
